Japan Application Procedure (2026 Intake)
Track A — MEXT Government Scholarship (Recommended)
- Embassy Recommendation (Month 1–4): Apply through the Japanese Embassy in India (Delhi/Mumbai/Chennai/Kolkata). Submit application, academic records, and research plan. Written exam in English, Mathematics, and subject-specific papers.
- Primary Screening (Month 4–6): Embassy selects candidates for interview. ILOC provides full preparation.
- University Matching (Month 6–9): MEXT forwards your application to 3 Japanese universities of your choice. Professors review and accept candidates as Research Students.
- Certificate of Eligibility & Visa (Month 9–12): ILOC handles CoE application, student visa documentation, and pre-departure briefing.
Track B — Direct University Application
- Identify English-taught programs via JASSO (Japan Student Services Organisation) portal
- Contact supervising professor (for research degrees) — ILOC assists with email drafting and research proposal
- Submit application: transcripts, SOP, recommendation letters, English proficiency scores
- Obtain Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) from Japanese immigration — then apply for student visa
